As a nationally recognized media executive and award-winning journalist with more than two decades of experience leading some of the most influential newsrooms and media innovations in the United States, Allison Girvin serves of counsel to Hennes Communications, bringing to the team a unique combination of editorial vision, crisis-tested leadership and digital strategy expertise.
Most recently, Girvin served as Senior Director of Streaming for TEGNA, Inc., where she built and led the company’s streaming division from the ground up. She managed national editorial and production teams across 64 network-affiliated stations, working hand-in-hand with product, marketing, sales, and development teams to grow audiences and revenue. Under her leadership, TEGNA’s streaming platforms soared to over 300 million minutes of monthly watch time, cementing their role as a cornerstone of the company’s digital future.
Earlier in her career, Girvin was Unit Chief for Business, Technology, and Media at NBC News and MSNBC, where she directed coverage of some of the most complex and high-stakes issues of the past decade—from Russian disinformation campaigns and pharmaceutical investigations to global trade wars and financial reform. She led a team of 30 journalists across three bureaus, producing coverage for every NBC News platform, including broadcast, cable, digital, and social media.
Before NBC, Girvin drove transformation at Bloomberg Television, where she led three flagship daytime programs and successfully redesigned and re-launched its seven-hour market-day lineup. She was also part of the pioneering team that created HuffPost Live, one of the first large-scale, interactive online video networks. During her tenure, her team conducted 25,000 interviews across 100 countries, generating more than 2 billion video views and setting new industry standards for audience engagement.
Girvin’s roots in journalism run deep. She spent over a decade at ABC News, where she rose from assignment editor to head writer for Good Morning America, serving anchors Diane Sawyer and Robin Roberts. She ultimately led ABC’s Early Morning News Division, overseeing World News Now and America This Morning. Along the way, she earned multiple honors, including an Emmy Award for coverage of the 2008 presidential election and an Edward R. Murrow Award for breaking news coverage of the death of Osama bin Laden. She began her career in local news in North Carolina and Tennessee, where she also won two regional Emmy Awards.
Beyond her media accomplishments, Girvin is a passionate advocate for social justice. She served as Chairwoman of the Junior Board of the Women’s Prison Association, advancing efforts to help formerly incarcerated women successfully reenter society. She is also a sought-after speaker on new media, crisis communications, and women in leadership, lecturing at top universities and conferences nationwide.
Girvin holds a Master of Science in Magazine Writing from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Missouri, which recognized her in 2013 with its prestigious Emerging Leader Award.
