Lessons From a School on Handling Social Media Crises

On a Labor Day Sunday some time ago, the leadership team at a school that Hennes Communications has worked with got wind of a tweet. The tweet was directed at the school and it simply said: “Handle this.” Below that two-word message was a screen capture from Snapchat that showed a group of students in a discussion that included liberal use of racial slurs, references to the KKK and sexual references. In rapid fashion, here’s what the school administrators did.
