Our Perspective

Mergers & Acquisitions
Mergers, Acquisitions and Management Transitions: Using Crisis Communications Principles to Achieve Better Outcomes
By Nora Jacobs, Hennes Communications
Professional service providers aspiring to be trusted advisers rather than simply transactionalists must understand that from the point of view of their clients, the Court of Public Opinion is often more important than the Court of Law.  The Court of Public Opinion directly and indirectly influences every line function of the enterprise, including market share and market pricing, profitability, recruitment, client acquisition and retention and even philanthropy on both the giving and receiving side.  While mergers, acquisitions and management transitions all must take into account a wide variety of legal issues, consideration must also be given to extra-legal issues that will undoubtedly influence brand perception.
Elephants Never Forget
What Happens When You Forget What You Wanted To Say?
Intro by Bruce Hennes, Hennes Communications
There are many reasons to be fearful of speaking in public.  I used to be one of those people, scared to death of getting up in front of a group, saying the wrong thing, looking silly, stammering.  In my early 20’s, on the rare occasion I’d give it a try – and my heart would beat so hard and fast I was positive that everyone within 10 feet of me could see my shirt moving up and down.  My hands would shake and the sweat poured off me like I was standing in front of a blast furnace.  Sound familiar?

In the News

It’s Not Misinformation. It’s Amplified Propaganda.
Through my work at the Internet Observatory, I’d witnessed many attempts to push messages by gaming the algorithms that Twitter, Facebook and other platforms use to identify popular content and surface it to users. Confronted with campaigns to make certain ideas seem more widespread than they really are, many researchers and media commentators have taken to using labels such as “misinformation” and “disinformation.” But those terms have fallen victim to scope creep. They imply that a narrative or claim has deviated from a stable or canonical truth.  In fact, we have a very old word for persuasive communication with an agenda: propaganda.
How to Remove Fake Google Reviews
In today’s online world, failing to remove a fake Google review can place your business name and reputation at serious risk. Fake Google reviews can lead to negative publicity, loss of potential customers, decreased profits, and other consequences.  There are four ways to remove fake Google reviews.  In this article, attorney Aaron Minc lays out those options.
Preparing Witnesses
Consider the ‘Message Effect’ of Inviting a Consultant to Help Your Witness
Bringing in a witness consultant is not always necessary, but when it is, the person can provide both substantive and symbolic assistance. In addition to helping with the testimony’s process and product, the presence of a consultant also provides an additional value-add by sending a message to the potentially stressed and wary witness. And with just one possible exception, it is a positive message. Could this ‘message effect’ of a preparation session be every bit as powerful and important to the witness as the more concrete advice they receive?
Projecting Leadership Presence in a Teleconference
Whenever you are speaking to an audience (whether customers, clients or colleagues), people won’t only be evaluating your words, they will be “reading” your voice. Listeners will be searching for clues to possible hidden agendas, concealed meanings, disguised emotions, undue stress – anything, in short, that will help them determine if they can rely on what you're telling them.
